Museum Mesdag
Hendrik Willem Mesdag was a leading figure in the art world of The Hague during the 19th century. Famous for his Panorama
Mesdag (a cylinder-shaped painting of nearby coastal resort Scheveningen in 1881), Mesdag was himself a painter and an avid
collector of works, especially of the Barbizon School of French painters, including Jean-François Millet, Jean Baptiste Camille
Corot and Gustave Courbet. Their works - along with Mesdag's and those of other members of The Hague School - grace the Mesdag
Museum. Mesdag built the museum as an annex to his house, and the carpets and artifacts are all original.
