National Museum

( Highly Recommended )

This is one of the largest and best-stocked museums in Southeast Asia, with a remarkable collection of objects from all periods of known 'Thai' history - that is, from Ban Chiang civilisation more than 4,000 years ago, through the Mon and Khmer periods, to the eventual immigration and settlement of the various Thai-speaking peoples from about AD 900 onwards. As might be expected, the displays on the golden eras of Thai history - the Sukhothai and Ayuthaya periods - are particularly strong. The museum is well maintained and well presented, and regular guided tours are available.
