Erawan National Park

( Highly Recommended )

This park covers 550sq km of unspoilt wilderness in the Khwae Yai river valley. It is a great place for walking and swimming, with well-marked trails and numerous waterfalls, the highest of which is named after the mythical Hindu-Buddhist three-headed elephant Erawan.
The best time to visit is during the rainy season when the falls are at their most impressive, but, being quite close to Bangkok, the park is a popular draw for local visitors and is best avoided during songkran, the traditional Thai New Year each April, if you are seeking solitude and empty spaces.
