Museo y Tesoro de la Catedral

The Museo y Tesoro de la Catedral (Cathedral Museum and Treasury) is housed around the magnificent 16th-century cloisters adjoining the cathedral. It also includes the Romanesque Old Cathedral (a crypt beneath the Pórtico de la Glória) and the Chapel of San Fernando, which opens off the interior of the cathedral. In the latter you can see gem-encrusted gold crucifixes and statues still used for important feasts. The museum includes a fine collection of tapestries from the most prestigious workshops.

The cloisters, a lovely blend of Castilian-Gothic and Renaissance architecture, are some of the largest in Spain. Stairs lead up to the gallery, completed in 1590, which offers a good vantage point over the cathedral square. The building adjoining the left of the cathedral is the old Bishop's Palace.
