Look Behind You!
The ancient art of puppetry is alive and well in Madrid. Take the children to the Parque del Retiro on Sunday morning to see
knockabout shows that produce howls of laughter and plenty of audience participation. Even if you don't speak Spanish, the
language of puppetry is international. Find them by the estanque (lake).
Messing About in Boats Another amusement in the Parque del Retiro is boating on the estanque (lake), under the watchful eye of Alfonso XII. Across the city in the Casa de Campo is another boating lake. As a city Madrid has a limited number of attractions that appeal to the non-Spanish-speaking child. All children, however, are welcome in cafés and restaurants, and local youngsters tend to stay up later than their contemp or aries from northern Europe or America. |
