DRIVING Speed limit on motorways: 120kph Speed limit on main roads: 100kph Speed limit on minor roads: 90kph urban roads: 50kph Seat belts must be worn in front seats and rear seats where fitted. Penalties are heavy for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. It is compulsory to take drink/drug tests when requested by police. Failure to comply is a serious offence. Regulations: It is illegal to drive while wearing headphones or using hand-held mobile phones. Fines: for traffic offences are stringent and payment is required on the spot. Lead-free petrol (sin plomo) is readily available. Other types include super (4 star), normal (3 star)and gasoleo (diesel). Drivers must carry two warning triangles, spare bulbs and fuses, a spare wheel and a fluorescent jacket. The towing of motor vehicles is not permitted, except to move a broken-down car out of traffic or to a safe place. Only a breakdown vehicle is allowed to tow a broken-down car. |
