PERSONAL SAFETY

As in most big cities, pickpockets are a problem in Madrid, especially in busy places such as open-air markets, large shops and railway stations. Valuables such as tickets and passports should be locked up in the hotel rather than carried with you. The Rastro Flea Market is a place where you need to be particularly careful. Madrid is a late-night city, but stay on main streets where there are more people. Be sure to take official taxis only.
