- Grand Festival of Toshugu Shrine, Nikko (17-18 May) : centuries-old festival features a parade (on the 18th) of 1,000 people dressed in armour, escorting three palanquins through the Nikko streets.
- Sanja Matsuri (nearest Fri, Sat, Sun to the 18th) : about 100 mikoshi (portable shrines) assemble at the Asakusa Shrine, Tokyo and then parade around the 'parish'.
