Famous People
Japan's largest national park lies at the centre of Hokkaido. An unspoilt area of volcanoes rising to 2,133m, with forest, rivers, gorges and ice fields, it is an excellent place for walkers and lovers of hot spring baths. It lies about 15km east of Kamikawa, which is the gateway to Sounkyo, well known for its hot springs and gorge. West of Sounkyo, the hot spring resort of Asahidake Onsen lies at the foot of Mount Asahidake and can be reached by bus from Asahikawa.
