At the very southwestern tip of the Nansei-shoto archipelago, the Yaeyama islands consist of the main islands of Ishigaki-jima and Iriomote-jima and a few smaller islands. On Ishigaki-jima the Yaeyama Minzoku-en Village specialises in pottery and weaving, and there are excellent beaches and diving sites.
