Daitokuji

( Do not miss )

The Daitokuji, or Temple of Great Virtue, consists of the main temple plus 23 smaller temples on one extensive site, including ornamental gardens and tea houses. Founded in 1319 and rebuilt during the 15th and 16th centuries after a fire, for many this is the ultimate Zen temple. If you are able only to visit one of the Daitokuji temples, choose Daisen-in, with its handsome Zen garden. Go early to avoid the crowds.
