Ikebukuro

( Worth Seeing )

Located in the northwest of the city, and off the tourist route, Ikebukuro is interesting for some high-tech displays (the Toyota Amlux building, with a 'smellorama' cinema and everything to do with the auto world), two of the largest department stores in the world (Tobu, closed Wednesday, and Seibu, closed Thursday) and the Metropolitan Art Space, designed specifically for performance art. The 17th-century Rikugien Garden, a 10-hectare Edo pleasure garden of gravel paths and pine trees, is close to JR Komagome Station.
