( Highly Recommended )

Japan's second city and premier port is almost physically inseparable from Tokyo, and is popular as a day trip destination. It was one of the first towns to open to foreign trade after the Edo Period (in 1858), and retains its cosmopolitan flavour. Chinatown (chukagai), close to the harbour, is especially famous for offering the best Chinese food in the country. In the southeastern part of the city the exquisitely landscaped Sankei-en Garden features a 500-year-old pagoda, tea houses and farm houses. Minato Mirai, by contrast, is a futuristic development with Japan's tallest building, the Landmark Tower, which features the world's fastest lift and a viewing platform on the 70th floor; and Cosmo World, home of the world's biggest Ferris wheel.
