( Highly Recommended )

Behind the busy railway station area lies Ueno Park, Tokyo's largest park and a popular venue for viewing the cherry blossom in spring. The area is home to several great museums. The vast Tokyo National Museum has superb exhibits from every field of Japanese art and archaeology; a special highlight is the Horyuji Gallery with its priceless treasures of religious art. The Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum exhibits modern Japanese art, while the National Museum of Western Art building was designed by Le Corbusier, and its collection is dominated by French masterpieces of the 19th and 20th centuries. The nearby Shitamachi History Museum records the heritage of pre-war Tokyo.
