This park in northern central Tohoku is renowned for its hot springs (especially Sukayu Onsen with its 1,000-person bath), the beautiful scenery around Towada Lake (a volcanic crater) and the volcanic landscape of the Hachimantai Plateau, where there are more thermal resorts, including Goshogake Onsen and Toshichi Onsen. There are excellent walking possibilities in the hills around the lake (the main entry point being Yasumiya), especially at Oirase-keiryu.
