( Worth Seeing )

Run by the Faculty of Agriculture of Hokkaido University, the Botanical Garden covers about 14 hectares and is planted with areas of virgin forest and about 5,000 varieties of flora native to Hokkaido.
In the grounds of the garden is the former house of an English anthropologist, John Batchelor, which now houses a small museum devoted to the Ainu, with examples of traditional clothing, tools and other items unique to the indigenous people of Hokkaido. The Ainu have no written language, but a rich oral tradition of folk poems.
