Central Honshu
The region of Central Honshu includes Tokyo, the capital of Japan and its largest city, with its surroundings; and the area known as Chubu, which stretches across Honshu with Tokyo and Kyoto its northern and southern points. Of course the region is dominated by the sheer size and influence of Tokyo, which is sure to figure on any itinerary in Japan. There is much more, however - Mount Fuji falls within this area, as do the major cities of Nikko and Yokohama. There is the wonderful scenery of Noto-hanto (Noto Peninsula) to be enjoyed, and Nagano, the charming town of Takayama, the splendid castle of Inuyama and the artistic and cultural treasures of Kanazawa. If you go nowhere else in Japan, this region will provide a good insight into the nature of the country. |
