PHOTOGRAPHY What to photograph: mountains, gardens, temples, modern urban Japan and glimpses of living 'old' Japan (eg geisha girls).
When to photograph: the best times are in the spring (especially when the blossom is out) and in the autumn.
Where to buy film: although it may be cheaper outside Japan, film of all types and processing facilities are widely available in even the smallest Japanese town.
WHEN DEPARTING There is an airport tax payable on leaving Japan.
Make sure that you reconfirm your onward flight no fewer than 72 hours before departure, especially if flying on a Japanese airline.
Arrive at the correct airport with plenty of time to spare. If travelling to Narita Airport by bus, catch one at least 3 hours before departure time.
