USEFUL WORDS AND PHRASES
Hungarian, called Magyar by its speakers, is a difficult language, related to Finnish and Estonian. German is traditionally the second language, but English is gradually replacing it, especially among the younger generation. Apart from a few international words (posta, telefon), Hungarian offers few clues as to its meaning. However, pronunciation is regular - letters consistently stand for the same sounds. By learning basic words, street signs, notices and labels will begin to make sense.
