Georges Minne was a distinguished pupil of the sculptor Auguste Robin. Sculptures of slim, naked youths are his trademark and he has made hundreds of variations on the theme. His work has become internationally famous and is found in museums the world over. This circle of naked men is commonly known as pietjesbak (pronounced 'peetyes'). It is a play on words because the word can mean either 'dice basin' or 'Pete's basin'. According to local legend, anyone who drinks the water in the fountain will have eternal life. You are probably far more likely to catch something nasty!
