This museum is probably the least well known by the inhabitants of Ghent, if they know it at all. Yet every year many Russian tourists come to the city simply to visit this museum. It so happens that Maurice Maeterlinck, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, is hugely popular in Russia and he is commemorated in this 18th-century former hotel through a display of his possessions and a reconstruction of his study. Those who are not keen on Maeterlinck can gaze at the tawdry Chinese salon with its silk wallpaper.
