DRIVING

Speed limit on motorways (auto-routes): 130kph (50kph in poor visibility). Speed limit on dual carriage-ways: 110kph

Speed limit on main roads: 90kph

Speed limit on minor roads: 50kph

Seat Belts: Must be worn in front seats at all times and in rear seats where fitted.

Limit: 0.05 per cent alcohol per litre of blood.

Petrol (essence) including unleaded (sans plomb) is widely available. Petrol stations are numerous along main roads but rarer in mountainous areas. Some on minor roads are closed on Sunday. Most take credit cards. Maps showing petrol stations are available from main tourist offices.

A red warning triangle must by carried if your car has no hazard warning lights, but it is advised for all motorists. Place this 30m behind the car in the event of an accident or breakdown. On motorways ring from emergency phones (every 2km) to contact the local breakdown service. Off motorways, the police will advise on local breakdown services.
