Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek
A splendid winter garden with huge palm trees is the unexpected focal point of the New Carlsberg Glyptotek, one of the country's
finest art museums. Carl Jacobson, the owner of the Carlsberg breweries who founded the museum, was mostly interested in ancient
art from the Mediterranean, and Danish and French art from the 19th century onwards. Highlights are the Etruscan collection,
one of the largest outside Italy, and French sculpture (including a superb Rodin collection) and paintings. The French collection,
housed in a specially designed structure, includes paintings by the main Impressionists and 40 works by Paul Gauguin. The
museum is currently undergoing extensive renovation which is due for completion by June 2006.
