Magyar Nemzeti Múzeum
Five collections form the Magyar Nemzeti Múzeum (Hungarian National Museum), Hungary's largest museum, covering an area of
861,111 square feet. They include archeology, medieval and modern displays, a numismatic collection and historical portraits.
The great prize among the exhibits is St. Stephen's 11th-century crown, which was stolen by Hungarian fascists after World
War II and kept in the United States until President Jimmy Carter ordered its return. The upper part of the crown, a gold
cap set above the jeweled headband, may date even earlier. Other curiosities are the inscribed brick from a 13th-century monk's
tomb and the tent of a Turkish commander taken at the siege of Vienna in 1683.
