Magyar Állami Operaház
Take one of the daily 40-minute guided tours of the Magyar Állami Operaház (Hungarian State Opera House) building to marvel
at its marble, gold leaf and frescoes. Opened in 1884, it celebrates the musical world with statues of composers Wolfgang
Mozart, Guiseppe Verdi, Richard Wagner and Ludwig van Beethoven, which stand on the stone cornice of the front terrace. Pride
of place goes to Hungarians Franz Liszt and opera composer Ferenc Erkel, whose statues flank the entrance. Inside the building
an enormous bronze chandelier hangs over the auditorium, which is decorated with Greek gods.
