Finding a Room Budapest has a wide range of accommodation, including everything from luxury hotels to private rooms. The city has almost 100 hotels and nearly 2,000 other types of accom modation to choose from, so you should find something to suit your taste and budget. Youth Hostels Young people and students travelling to Budapest are well catered for by youth hostels. The official Hostelling International office at Keleti (Eastern) Station has details of a large selection of centrally located hostels in the city, offering a range of facilities and services. Central Locations A great number of Budapest's hotels are concentrated on the Pest side of the Danube, close to many of the major sights. The Hotel Association of Hungary publishes a useful booklet detailing its member hotels, from five-star establishments to pensions, in the Budapest region. Prices (Outside Budapest) Accommodation is generally cheaper outside Budapest. The price bands below represent the approximate cost (excluding a tourist tax of 0.3 per cent) of a double room with private facilities, per night. Local Traditions The Magyar language is unfamiliar enough to Western ears, but, if you are staying outside Budapest, especially in the north of Hungary, you may also hear a dialect known as Palóc. Villages in this region, for example Hollókő, revel in their folk traditions and you will be treated to some of the most colourful costumes in the country, especially on Sunday and during Easter celebrations. |
