Wildlife
In and around the city of Budapest the woodlands abound with birdlife, especially in springtime when the resident birds are augmented by huge numbers of migratory birds - the elusive golden oriole, for example, with its distinctive fluty song. Also several species of warblers arrive at this time of year, among them Bonelli's warbler, with its high-pitched trilling song. Less conspicuous but worth looking out for is the honey buzzard, a bird of prey that soars on rounded wings marked with bars. Among the city's commonest birds are the delightful flycatchers: the collared fly catcher with its black-and-white plumage and the red-breasted flycatcher, frenetic on the wing, with a constantly dipping tail. |
