Andrássy Út (Andrássy Way)
(
Highly Recommended
)
Once the city's premier boulevard, it was named after the famous statesman, Andrássy. An archictectural jumble of glorious
opulence and fading splendour, at one time it was known as Stalin Avenue, and until recently was called by the equally uninspiring
name Avenue of the People's Republic. It runs all the way from Deák tér to Városliget (City Park), is home to the State Opera
House and the Academy of Fine Arts, as well as to almost a constant stream of traffic, which makes walking a bit hectic. There
are some good shopping opportunities here, however.
