Situated in the middle of Szentháromság tér near Matthias Church, the highest point on Castle Hill, the 14m-tall monument was erected between 1710 and 1713 by the inhabitants of Buda. It was hoped it would fend off further plague epidemics that had sporadically ravaged the city.
