Öntödei Mùzeum (Foundry Museum)

( Highly Recommended )

This museum goes to prove how enterprising the Hungarians are in turning an otherwise uninspiring industrial process into something of general interest. Built on the site of the old Ganz ironworks, which produced the world's first electric railway engine, the museum contains a reconstructed foundry and workshop, also an interesting collection of products once manufactured here. A quirky idea, perhaps, but it provides an interesting insight into the kind of heavy industry which characterised Hungary's economy, particularly during the Communist era.
