Standing in the grounds of the Buda Castle Palace, the well has a bronze statue of King Matthias as a huntsman, in the company of his shield bearer and his Italian chronicler. The statue includes the figure of Szep Ilonka (Helen the Fair), a beautiful girl of low birth who fell in love with the King while he was hunting - a case of unrequited love. This most impressive statue is well worth seeking out.
