Kortárs Művészeti Mùzeum (Contemporary Art Museum - Ludwig Collection)

( Highly Recommended )

Based in Wing A of the Buda Castle Palace, the museum has had a chequered history and is certainly worth a visit. Originally called the Museum of the Working Class Movement, by the time the totalitarian regime began to crumble, the name was considered rather gauche. It received its new name and a billionaire patron in the late 1980s. Its collection is very contemporary, with only very recent works exhibited. Some claim it to be a very strong collection - witty, entertaining, even funny. Much the same could be said of the interior of the building with its red marble walls and oversize stairs.
