Hotel Gellért és Gellért Gyógyfürdő (Gellért Hotel and Gellért Thermal Baths)
( Do not miss ) Described by a local illustrator as a 'huge white gem', the Danubius Gellért Hotel (to give it its full name) is one of the most prestigious in Budapest. The hotel, together with its thermal baths, was built as part of a major civic policy to make Budapest into a city of baths. If not taking a dip, then have a look at the mosaic floor and glass ceiling. From the back of the hall you can see into the roofed part of the swimming pool. Also see the outdoor pool, which was recently enlarged, its polished post-modern lines contrasting with the bulky art-nouveau building which was completed in 1918. The outdoor pool stretches to the other side of Kemenes utca and is connected to the main area by a subway. But if you're not feeling energetic, then relax with an ice-cream or a beer on the terrace.
