HEALTH

Insurance

All visitors to Hungary receive free first aid and transport to hospital. However, there is a charge for all other treatment so it is essential to take out comprehensive health insurance.

Dental Services

Dental treatment and associated prescribed medicines must be paid for. High-quality dental work is relatively inexpensive by western standards. Contact your embassy for details of dentists speaking foreign languages.

Sun Advice

During the high season temperatures can rise into the 30°C with bright sunshine. It is recommended that you wear a sunhat and cover the skin as Budapest can receive around nine hours of sunshine in July and August.

Drugs

Pharmacies (gyógyszertár or patika) issue a wide range of drugs, but mostly originating in Eastern European. If you require special medication you should take it with you. Products tend to be cheaper than in the West.

Safe Water

Tap water is safe to drink. Otherwise, bottled water is widely available if you prefer. Look for ásvány víz (mineral water) or szóda víz (soda water).
