Museu D'art Contemporani De Barcelona (Macba)
( Highly Recommended ) The new Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art (MACBA), inaugurated in 1995, focuses on the art movements of the second half of the 20th century. The museum building, itself a work of art designed by the American architect Richard Meier, has been the subject of much controversy but is increasingly being included as one of Barcelona's must-see landmarks. The vast white edifice with swooping ramps and glass-walled galleries almost upstages the works on display. Its location - surrounded by shabby old houses in the rundown district of Raval - is intended to spearhead investment in the neighbourhood. MACBA's extensive collection (exhibited in rotation) covers the 1940s to the 1990s, with special emphasis on Catalan and Spanish artists. It contains works by Klee, Miró and Tàpies along with many others, including Joan Brossa, Maurizio Cattelan and Damien Hirst.
