Naós Aiólou (Tower of the Winds)
(
Highly Recommended
)
This, the best feature in the Roman Agora site, can be seen easily from outside the fencing, but you should take a closer
look. The curious octagonal building dates from about 40 BC. One of its many features was a water clock, driven by a stream
from the Acropolis; it still has its weather vane, compass and sundials, and a frieze depicting the eight wind gods. One of
these, Ailos, gives his name to Eolou Street, on which the tower stands.
