Kentrikí Agorá (Central Market)
(
Highly Recommended
)
To the south of Omonia, where Athinas meets Evripidou, is the 19th-century metal structure that houses the city's main meat
and fish markets. This bustles with business six days a week, and inside you will find every type of fish from the Aegean
and beyond, and every cut of every meat you're likely to find on a Greek plate. It is not a place for vegetarians to linger.
Instead, they may wish to explore the streets which radiate from here, where other markets and fascinating shops can be found,
displaying fruit, vegetables, flowers, nuts, spices, olives, cheese and much more. On a sunny day, photographers can be seen
taking shot after shot of the rainbow-coloured displays. It is definitely the place to visit to see Athenians bartering, and
to buy something tasty to take home. It is also the place to go if you're planning a picnic for a day out.
