The main church of the Pláka district is opposite the entrance to the Museum of Greek Folk Art. Its full name is Sotira tou Kotaki and it was built in the late-11th and early-12th centuries, at the same time as the Church of St Catherine, a hundred metres away. It has undergone many changes over the years, but in the grounds you can still see the fountain that was the only source of water in the Pláka until well after Greek Independence in the 19th century.
