In the Pnyka and on top of the Hill of the Muses (147m) is the Monument of Philopappou. Banished to Athens by the Romans, Philopappou became the Roman Consul in Athens in AD 100. He was popular here because of his generosity and was allowed to build this grandiose tomb on one of the city's prime sites in AD 114-116.
