East Tennessee Weekly Gas Prices

October 12, 2005

Prices resumed a more normal difference today between Knoxville and Tri-Cities, with all four East Tennessee cities showing considerable drops. Knoxville’s lowest signboard prices are reading as much as 18 cents-per-gallon lower than comparable Tri-Cities prices today, a change from the unusual patterns of recent weeks.

Drivers should make sure their cars are in good shape, take public transit where possible, and combine trips to reduce gasoline use. Other suggestions are in AAA’s Gas Watcher’s Guide, free at AAA offices, and on the web at www.aaaet.com.

In AAA’s signboard spotcheck of 25 Knoxville stations today, the most common price was $2.699 (10 stations), down 30 cents from last week’s most common price of $2.999. The next most frequent price was $2.689, today’s low, at seven stations. Seven other stations showed either $2.789 or $2.799, the highest price. One station stood at $2.719. The signboard average price of these 25 stations is $2.724.

Bristol’s average fell 21 cents to $2.769 from last Wednesday.  The high and low fell twenty cents to $2.79 and  $2.72.

Kingsport’s average fell  8.2 cents to $2.901 from last week’s $2.983.  The high fell four cents to $2.95 while the low fell nine cents to $2.86.

In Johnson City, the average fell  15.8 cents to $2.839.  The high fell ten cents to $2.89, while the low fell twenty-two cents to $2.76.
