AAA's
Role in Better Transportation
In 1916, AAA helped secure passage of the first Federal
Highway Bill. And, in 1956, AAA worked for passage of
legislation authorizing the construction of the 41,000-mile
system of Federal Interstate Highways. AAA is a strong
supporter of the Federal Highway Trust Fund, which was
established with motorist's taxes especially for the
purpose of constructing and maintaining federal and
state highways on a pay-as-you-go basis. Throughout
our history, AAA, nationally and locally, has continuously
worked on behalf of its membership for better and safer
highways, improved vehicle design and enhancements to
our transportation infrastructure.
AAA
Traffic Safety Programs
AAA supports and actively participates in the School
Safety Patrol program, the AAA National Community Traffic
Safety Program, the AAA/Ford Auto Skills Contest, the
"School's Open-Drive Carefully" campaign and
pedestrian safety educational programs.
The Club cooperates and works closely
with police departments, educators, legislators, business,
municipal and state traffic and safety officials to
bring the AAA safety message to the attention of the
general public.
AAA
and National & State Legislation
AAA works to assure the proper use of motorists' taxes
and to support all legislation in your best interest
as a motorist. Continuing progress is being made in
achieving more uniform traffic laws, sounder traffic
enforcement, improved traffic court procedure, more
effective methods to prevent accidents, and in improving
highways and vehicles.
Bail Bond Protection
Traffic laws and ordinances are often confusing, especially
in unfamiliar territory; and local authorities are frequently
not too considerate of strangers. When such an incident
occurs, guilty or not, you may be required to put up
cash bail to assure your appearance in court.
The posting of a bail bond to the
average motorist is complicated and frequently expensive.
AAA members, however, are provided with bail for any
amount up to $5,000.
AAA bail bond service covers arrest
for violation of a motor vehicle law or ordinance except
violations involving driving while under the influence
of intoxicating liquors, drugs or narcotics, failure
to appear on prior traffic violations or driving on
a suspended or revoked license, hit and run, failure
to present evidence of insurance, illegal use or falsification
of license or registration, engaging in any felonious
act, attempting to elude or eluding a police officer,
or while driving a vehicle for commercial purposes.
Bail bond instructions are printed on your membership
renewal form and are available in our branch offices.
Read them carefully and sign the card in the space provided.
Contact the nearest AAA or Canadian
Automobile Association office by calling 1-800-AAA-HELP.
Bail Bond Protection should be regarded
as a loan, to spare you the discomfort of being detained
in jail. You must pay the bond if it is forfeited or
used to pay fines.
Legal Reimbursement Service
Legal representation in court is often necessary - and
expensive. There are thousands of accidents and arrests
every day. To assure a fair hearing for members, the
Club pays for legal protection if you unintentionally
or unknowingly violate motor vehicle laws. Reimbursement
will not be made if you are convicted of hit and run,
liquor or narcotic charges.
AAA does not practice law. You have
the privilege of retaining your own attorney. You pay
the attorney and then submit their receipted bill to
the Club for reimbursement consideration. In a case
involving more than one charge, the Club will pay as
specified on one charge only. The attorney's bill should
state the charges defended and the fee for each.
The Club reimburses you for legal
fees up to $1,300, including appeal to higher court
when necessary, according to the schedule shown below.
For defense for manslaughter or
driving so as to endanger resulting in death, not
exceeding $800.00
If an appeal is taken, not exceeding
an additional $500.00
For defense in driving so as to
endanger or reckless driving, not exceeding $200.00
If an appeal is taken, not exceeding
an additional $100.00
For defense of other alleged violations
of automobile laws, not exceeding $100.00
If an appeal is taken, not exceeding
an additional $70.00
$1,000 Theft Reward Protection
When you're a AAA member, your car is covered 24 hours
a day - wherever you may be - by your Club's AAA Theft
Reward Service. A warning sticker on your car can discourage
theft by announcing your Club's offer of a cash reward
totaling $1,000 for information leading to the arrest
and conviction of anyone stealing your car. Police and
other security officials engaged in the normal performance
of their duties, the registered owner of the vehicle,
and AAA members in the immediate family are not eligible
for this reward.
Notary Public Service
Free notary service is available to members at all AAA
Southern New England offices, not only for license applications,
but for any other documents requiring notary public
certification. There is no charge and no delay. This
is another example of the way in which your Club provides
for your motoring needs.
Emergency Check Cashing Service
Sometimes a sudden emergency makes additional funds
necessary when you are vacationing in an unfamiliar
city where it may be difficult to cash a personal check.
To provide you with cash for these unexpected emergencies,
your Club has made special arrangements with AAA offices
throughout the country and Canada to cash your personal
check in an amount not to exceed $100.00 upon presentation
of proper identification and your valid AAA membership
card.
