With a Federal PLUS Loan through AAA Student Lending Program, parents of undergraduate dependent students are eligible to borrow under the PLUS Loan Program. With a PLUS loan through the AAA Student Lending Program, you could save up to 1.6% on the interest rate for the next ten years. Graduate and Professional students may now borrow under the GradPLUS loan program.

Eligibility Requirements:

Parent of undergraduate student or graduate student attending an eligible institution at least halftime
Satisfactory Credit check
U.S. citizen or national, a U.S. permanent resident, or an eligible non-citizen
FAFSA generally required by institution
FAFSA is required for graduate students
Graduate students must maximize their Stafford loan limit before applying for a PLUS loan (typically $20,500).

PLUS Loan Tip: If a Parent is denied for a PLUS loan, the student may be eligible for an additional $4,000-5,000 to be added to their Stafford loan. Typically a school will request a copy of the PLUS loan denial.

Federal PLUS Loan interest rate is reduced by 0.6% (8.5% to 7.9%) immediately upon first disbursement of funds. Federal PLUS Loan borrowers are eligible for an additional 1% (7.9% to 6.9%) if borrower elects to have monthly payments transferred electronically from a checking account. Interest rate reduction will begin when automatic payments start and will continue in effect as long as automatic payments continue without interruption. Interest rate will increase automatically by 1% if borrower does not make automatic electronic payments or if such payments are cancelled, rejected or returned for any reason. These benefits apply to 2008-09 academic year.
